| Can I make an LCD screen?
This forum seems like it has some knowledgeable members, and I want to make an LCD (nothing fancy, in fact I don't really even need pixels). I found this website http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/lcd8.htm, and I thought that I may be able to pull it off. First off, though: Does anyone know what the liquid crystals are made of, and if I could get any (preferably sandwiched between two pieces of glass)?
I know it's an odd request, but thanks for looking.

there are a number of different organic compounds used in lcd displays. are you just trying to make a simple on/off picture or logo type display? you may still be better off using something like a hitachi dot matrix display, where you would not need to worry about generating a 40Hz square wave to drive the display (you cannot drive the display on simple direct current), and it may even have a font generator built in. |

I was thinking a simple on/off picture, if that. And this would be a school project, so going out and buying the display is not what I'm after. And FatalException, I'm not looking for a simple answer. |

Alright, all that I really need is an example of an LCD, preferably that I made. The little section from my link should do, so could anyone tell me how to get those materials? Any help would be good... |
