| Importing messages in Outlook 2000, not Express
Hi
I recently had to format my HD due to a virus, but first backed up what I could to a second computer.
I now want to import all my old Outlook Express emails (.dbx files) into Outlook 2000.
I figured if I simply copy the .dbx files into the folder where the Outlook 2000 .dbx message files are, then they would appear in the program - but not so.
So I tried the import option, but it still isn't seeing the files.
Any ideas on this?
Thanks!
Best regards

Outlook uses Outlook Data Files to save and it saves in two places.
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Thats for when you need to make a backup without buying some cheesy program. Just grab both of those outlook folders and you'll be good. As far as importing... You should be able to import with no problem. What is it saying when you pull up the import screen?
Oh, and it shouldn't matter where the backed up files are stored. You should keep them in another folder, preferably on another drive, but browse and find them. Making sure you've told Outlook that you are trying to import files from Outlook Express.

Hi People!!
Thanks for the ideas.
The problem is that Outlook isn't giving me an option to browse to the messages.
I select File>Import and Export, then Import Internet Mail and Addresses, Outlook Express option (I uncheck the 'Import Address Book' option, as I successfully imported the address earlier), and then the only option is the Finish button, there is no browse option.
When I hit finish, it imports the default message that comes with a new Outlook installation.
Any ideas on how to get Outlook to find the old .dbx messages?
Thanks!!!

Hi TheCrazGod
There is a .pst file in the Outlook folder which Outlook 2000 is deriving it's message and address book data from.
I placed the .dbx files in this same folder, but it can't see them. How do I do this????
Cheers!

well, first off...it doesn't NEED to be in that folder, although I can't imagine it hurting anything. You need to find a way to browse to that folder from the import manager. you using XP? |

Hi
Never mind - I made OE my default mail client again, and just copied the .dbx into the Outlook Express folder, and it works.
What a freakin' hassle the other way!!!
Thanks for your help Mate!!
