To FLASH or WinFlash or NOT to flash at all??????

Well, here's my dilema. Built a nice little system for a guy & used a Sempron 2200 in an ECS K7VTA3 (6.0) board.

    But.........(right)........

Sempron shows up as an Athlon 1500. (Because it's running at 1.5Ghz like it should on 333fsb).

I'd *like* to make it show "Sempron 2200+" in the bios, but it looks like I can only use Winflash & I'm not familiar & not necessarily comfortable using that utility after some of the horror stories I've Googled.

Sure, I'd feel comfortable doing the DOS bootdisk & upgrading with DOS utility, but it looks like the file is only available in Winflash format.......Grrrr!

    Should I even bother?????

Linkage to files at ECS ----------> http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/down...to=Motherboard (You have to jump java scripts to get to the K7VTA3 (6.0) downloads & go to BIOS)

Do the update. Second i found this on the ECS website.

    http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/down...to=Motherboard

It had the BIOS file and the flash utility using the DOS boot disk method. I personaly have not see a motherboard manufacturer make you use the winflash utility. The MB manufacturer should always supply the BIOS program and you can go to the manufacturer of your BIOS chip to get the flash utility if you have to, Award and the other one.

Hope fully that link will take you to the right place. Good Luck!

PS. I dont like the winflash utility either.

    OK..................I bit the bullet!!!!!

I just winflashed it & all went well. I backed up the old bios first & saved it just in case, but it went fine. I didn't know what to check, so I just checked "update all" since I'm no pro on the blocks within the bios.

Only scare I had was when it said, "load binary file again?" and I freaked for a second & cancelled. Then I re-read the "how to use Winflash" and could barely see.......(the pdf file for the tutorial sucks).......that it *does* actually show this and you simply click "yes" again, then click "update" & watch it go.......

.........w/ your butt cheeks pinched together tightly so as to help the process along........LMAO!!!!!!!!
