    Web Hosting Suggestions

Hey guys, I'm looking for web hosting on a Virtual Dedicated Server or Virtual Private Server for $30 a month or less with about 5-10GB of disk space and a decent amount of transfer. It's going to be for a local entertainment website for Knoxville that should be getting some decent hits. Also it will have to allow for 2 MySQL databases.

Looks good but still trying to keep it under $30. That's the current challenge. The only way I could afford GoDaddy is if I paid for a full year upfront.

What are you going to need 5-10gb of disk space for?

Must be a pretty intense database. I have a heavy-usage eCommerce database that uses about 2MB for the database itself. The entire website, graphics, product imagery, etc, etc, etc. uses about 130mb.

Well the 2 databases will probably be smaller than that. Our website will have 2 basic databases. One with merchant info and one with website user data.

What would you guys suggest for hosting? Do I really need a Virtual Dedicated Server?

The hosting package we've been looking into is this one here:

    http://www.webtastic.com/vdsp.php

Looking into the $30 plan but I wasn't sure if it's overkill for what we're doing.

The databases will be very basic and the will probably take up about 1MB-2MB. Traffic shouldn't be too extreme.

    What do you think?

    Well a few more details...

Let me be a little more detailed in what we need the Virtual Domain Server for...

    Remember it's only $30/month.

We are creating an entertainment website for a decently sized City. We will have 100's of pictures on it along with probably 30-40 15sec video's and probably well over 100 MP3's of local bands. There will be around 30-40 rotating banners on the website with about 3 or 4 rotating somewhere on the website on any given load. Our expected traffic flow is going to be on average of around 3,000-6,000 hits a day or more and once we get really popular probably an average of 10,000-20,000 hits a day.

Brandon - If you don't mind me asking what is the link to your eCommerce website?

The rotating banners should not affect bandwidth or diskspace as much as the MP3s and Video will. Though the average hit to a website is 10kb which means we would only really need 40-100GB of transfer.

The MP3s and Video are not there yet but will come later down the road.

    100 MP3s = 350MB
    30-40 15sec. Videos = 200MB (average 5MB per 15 sec. video)

    Total space used = 550MB

    Website (w/ banners) = 200-300MB max

    2 MySQL Databases = 130MB

Total Max Disk Space used = 980MB. (less than 1GB)

Actually the Video will come in about 60 days and the MP3's will be available close to launch date. So you must keep that in mind.

i have a suggestion, what if you get a smaller package webhosting then when the site become popular like 3,000-6,000 hits a day then move on the much better web hosting that can handle those stuff you are talking about, as Ritalin Kid stated "The MP3s and Video will come later down the road."

If you use ads properly and you get popular you can make *some* extra cash to pay for the bills too.

My sentiments exactly.. Plus even with the max amount videos and MP3s we wouldn't use more than 2GB of disk space.

Realistically considering we have 0 MP3s from the 0 bands signed up on the website at this point I doubt we will have anywhere close to 100 MP3s at launch in May.

SiliconJunkies hosting looks good to me. Phenious's site is quick to pull up. I'm partial to that or 1and1, godaddy has some good deals also, like free a free fourm. We had considered doing a club review fourm anyway.
    BSOD.........
