Editted with link to drivers

Boy, I bought one of these cards off of Ebay and had a dickens of a time trying to get the thing to even work! The drivers that came with it wouldn't even install! I ended up finding drivers for it elsewhere, and it works okay now, although when I'm clicking through channels, sometimes I have to click on Channel 2 in order to get the feed again from Cable...strange.

I'm trying at the moment to figure out why I'm not recording sound off the TV signal, where as I get sound when I hook my PS2 up through the video input on the capture card and the line in from my sound card.

Perhaps you need to go into your sound card properties and choose a different source for recording sound from.

For all of you who see this post and want to IM me as to what I did to fix the problem with the drivers, here's the link to them. Download them, install them, do the restarts as necessary. You may have to fiddle with your sound card to get sound, but these are the drivers you want if you are running XP. The drivers that come with the card are for windows 98SE only.

did you ever get the audio working

i was just wondering if you ever got the audio working
if not check first that the sound in the program is the same as that in xp
ie if the program is using line in then you will need to make sure that the preferred device in xp is the line in or what ever the case may be!!

good point. At the moment, my system is not connected to cable, but I will look into that and see if I come up with a solution. You are probably right about my input/record settings though.

you can also so check to see in your case if you are using cdline or can uses cd line so look on your tv card there should be four jumpers in a row get a cd audio cable and pulg it in here and then plug the other end where you will normally plug 1 of your cdplayers cable in to your sound card , if you do not have enough jumpers on your board or sound card then you can splice two cables to one but you may lose quality of sound, this is almost certain to work as your cd line is normally enabled and if any one says you can not do it then do not believe as this is how my card is set up , the cards normally give crap sound anyway like a low hiss with mine so you may have to live with

I'll have to check that. My biggest gripe with this card is that the local channels seem to have visible static in the screen whereas the higher channels are devoid of such onscreen garbage. I wonder if it is picking up aerial signals from the locals or ???

I think the Philips (SAA) chips are more advanced, with more features, but the Brooktree (BT8xx) chips seem to run a little better (older chips with more mature drivers and more hardware bugs worked out?). Pricing will be about the same.
Peter M seems to prefer the SAA based cards, and is usually pretty knowledgable about hardware issues, so maybe I just got a case of 'You get what you pay for'.
After all, I did pay for a cheap card.

Same here, I got my card off ebay. I read good things about the philips chipset, but didn't realize how generic the card would actually be. It came with a remote control, but I have absolutely no idea how I'm supposed to get it to work
