Restoring my Compaq laptop to Factory Backup...

Can someone please help me in restoring my laptop to the factory back up? I have tried a few things but nothing has worked. I would like the computer to be the way it was when I first purchased it. Am I supposed to use the "system restore cd"? Can someone give me step-by-step on how to do this. It is running on Windows XP and the computer is a Presario 2100. Thanks.

yes use the system restore cd

insert it into your cd drive and then restart your computer
it should come up with a nice blue screen which will take you through the installation of XP

    if not post back

Go into the BIOS and set your boot order to CD-ROM as first device.

How do you set it to boot from the cd? I put my cd in and restarted my computer and it goes back to the desktop like normal. Do I restart it and then hit F2? And use safe mode or something?

There should be an option in the BIOS. Either F2/F1/ or the delete button should get you into the BIOS. It should state it as soon as it boots the first dialog screen, as to which button you're suppose to hit to enter the system BIOS.

It also could be F10 (I think that's what is used on Compaq's). Set it to boot off the cd and then save and exit. Then it might ask if you want to boot off the cd, press any key.

    It's a hidden key.
