| proper way to stop a program from starting during boot up?
i know how to to msconfig,task manager, I'm asking is there a way to go into the registry and properly delete it? like in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.....run. if one does not feel like exp laing to me. direct me to a site a novice can learn about the registry. frank white |

BTW, it's probably safer using the programs than messing around in the registry. If you don't know how to do it you could render your system useless. |

How about looking in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. In there is a list of local services that you can set to Manual start up, Automatic or Disabled.  |

Atomic Rooster's got it - or you could go to START > RUN > and type in SERVICES.MSC - going through XP's services is definately the best way to control a program starting up...I wouldn't mess with the registry unless you know what you're doing. |

| That is good for services but will not help much with actual programs like 'Office fast find' and quicktime, and 'real player'. These have to be disabled in startup or using a third party utility as pointed out above in several posts.
Also don't forget that almost all programs have a setting that will prevent them from starting on boot-up. Look around in each and stop it this way first. It is by far the best way to stop a program from loading. |

Thanks for the help. i do have and use startup tracker to stop programs from starting at boot up. (quick time, real Player? 1 or 2 others will sometimes return at boot up. Why????
2. i have partially uninstalled?deleted program window Blinds, i now have only 3Mb of the file in my add?remove programs that i try to uninstall . It returns error ( cant find Install.LOG. when i try to uninstall. Does this make sense> Is there A Program That can totally uninstall programs. I notice after I do uninstall some programs there is still traces of it. what program can i use to totally totally rid all traces.????? Frank White |
