Um, eBay? You can use a 98 bootdisk to format it in FAT32 format. But that's about it, You'll need a Windows cd if you want to reinstall the operating system. |

What brand is this computer? It'll either come with a restore cd, an OEM copy of windows or you will have to make your own restore cd which is on the hard drive. |

I would hope that if you were looking to do a legal install of XP that you would already have the CD.
Yes you can make boot disks for it as far as I know but once your booted off them you still need the CD to continue the install.
If your working with a restore disk just pop that bad boy in and let it go if your not concerned with saving anything. If you are back it up. You can always do what I did, move your back up to a second HDD if you have it and then just unplug it during the install, then once installed plug it back in move the files to the main disk and format it.

Theoritcally, You as long as you have your own CD KEY(authentic and such), you can use a copy of XP whether Home of Pro.
But since you cant find a cd, you could call them up and ask them for a replacement CD....Ive heard and read that they will send you one for a little cost tho... |

If you bought your computer with the operating system installed, you should have either received recovery CDs, the actual operating system CD, or it's possible there is a separate partition on the harddrive with the recovery programs on it. That information should have been with your machine when you got it.

On that note I heard that also because most computers now dont come with an actual copy of XP. But yes a valid KEY is needed for that.
You can obtain XP boot disks here. |
