Remove File types/Repair file extension .0xx..?

Ok i downloaded a file. it has the file ext 001..002...and so on. ok i was tryin to open the files with winrar. i did but i would always have to open them up and select the program(winrar). it was taking forever so i opened winrar and tried to associate the file types. I selected all but iso. For some reason it still didnt work.

So i continued and when i opened file .003 and i clicked select program from list, clicked winrar but on this particular file i decided to put "winrar 001 file" in the box where it says type a decription of this file, i had always use this type of program checked and click ok.

Afterwards i noticed that i should not have put a decription and then i noticed i put the wrong one at that.(001 file instead of 003 file) Well i thought it would do no harm so i continued with the rest of the file without puting a description.

Once i finished i tried to extract file .001 and i got an error with file .003 and i couldnt extract the iso i wanted. i figured it had something to do with that decription so i went to tools/folder options/file types/ looked up the 003 file ext and deleted it. i went back to the file and opened it,selected the program to always use. and didnt put a decription this time.

After that it would still come up as file type "winrar 001 file". to make a long story short i tried everything and same result. i also tried quickpar to try to repair the file but it says that it doesnt need repair but when i open the svf file it says that 003 is missing or damaged. i also download the file again and replaced it but same thing.

So i need one of yall experts' help PLEASE. Sorry if i forgot to mention anything important.

update: i just tried uninstalling winrar, deleting all file types associated with winrar, uninstalling the quickpar, and replaced the 003 file with the new downloaded one. i then installed winrar again and made it the program to open the file .003 and it stall came up as file type winrar .001 file.

so i was wondering is there a way to just restore the all the file types to the default settings..? well i just thought about doing a system restore so im going to try that.

Go to Command prompt and rename the file as it was earlier. For example, the current wrong name will be name.avi.001.rar > Just put dos command ren name.avi.001.rar name.avi.001

worked for me.
