HELP! My 3d Marks score is BAD

OK I finally D/L'd 3D Marks 2005 Trial Version to test out a PC I built a few months ago. I know that the PC is not top of the top of the line gaming machine but I think it should have done better than what it got! My final score was 901!

    Core System Specs:
    Intel LGA 775 Pentium 4 530 3.0 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology
    Gigabyte 8IP775/-G
    MSI ATI RADEON 9550 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP,
    Kingston 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200
Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

Again, I know this system isn't capable of handling the most graphics intense game in the world, but isn't 901 a little low?? Maybe I'm wrong...

Also something that caught my eye. On the specs sheet generated by 3d Marks, it said my graphics card is a PCI based card...but it's def. AGP. I went to the device manager and saw that it is set as PCI there also. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it to try and correct but could that be a reason my score is low? I was only pullin 5 fps average for every test....

My 3.4 @ 3.85ghz & 6800Ultra does 3 fps in the cpu tests. 3dMark05 is brutal & was made for video cards which haven't been released yet.

If your card is being reported as a PCI card it sounds like you should try reinstalling your motherboard chipset drivers. Might be the AGP driver didn't get installed correctly or is corrupt. You might need to reinstall the video driver after the chipset drivers too. Also make sure DirectX is up to date and doesn't show any problems when you run DxDiag.

Still, don't expect big numbers from that card once everything is squared away.

I'm not a heavy gamer but the PC was built at the time to play movies, and for processing power mostly. What is a good utility/program that is pretty much "3d Marks" for your processor? Once I get home, my plan was to reinstall everything as the PCI/AGP thing concerns me. I plan on upgrading the board soon as it only carries a 200 mhz FSB!

I like 3DMarks2001SE (free version) as a system benchmark. Changing cpu, ram or video speeds all effect the score. Super PI is a good cpu benchmark. Ram speed and timmings also effect the calculation times. PC Mark 2004 (free version) is a good system benchmark too.

That card should be great for your needs. Good luck with the driver installs.

Thanks, I'll try them all tongiht. Also, I rechecked the MOBO specs on the web and it says the board carries an 800 mhz FSB........

Guess I'm the guy missing out on 600mhz.......will try to correct that tonight also.

Your System Bus is "quad-pumped" (Intel term) to 800mhz. Your actual FSB is 200mhz. And your ram is running at a DDR Double Data Rate of 400mhz.

Too many numbers! Must go to work now! lol
