alright. now my computer here is a compaq deskpro, 466mhz. it acts up half the time i use it. ill try to launch the microsoft word, and it will take forever to load up, and then it wont let me type up anything. the window is faded and wont respond. other times it will. then, we sometimes use the netscape browser and that will freeze up. my brother was lookin up some Led Zepplin (spelled wrong) lyrics and the thing froze. what is wrong with this stupid thing!!! ive tried running my spybot search and destroy program but all it finds is tracking cookies and maybe an occasional DSO exploit. what is that anyway? can anyone help me?

well the first thing that is wrong with it is that its a compaq. they built really horrible machines.
what operating system are you running?
how much memory is on the computer?
PIII correct?
DSO exploit is pretty much a bug that could under certain circumstances allow untrusted software to run

im running windows 2000, the computers onlygot like126 mb ram, and like when i run dxdiag, it just gave me a whole bunch of " dxdiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing - something- the last time this program was used. would you like to bypass -samething- this time? and id answer no. whats that all about? also, my computer wont let me run msconfig also? and processor speed has dropped 6 megahurtzes( heh) since the last time i checked. time to go get that desert eagle. but no, as far as i know of, its not a p3. not this slow anyways. but this isnt actually my pc, its the "family" one. i got half a gig on mine. |

oh, and by the way, id personally go for the guitar instead of the computer. computer promotes sedative lifestyle. plus, you cant play the computer around the campfire. kinda hard to sing along to the silent keyboard or that noisy maxtor huh? i dont think your girlfriend would be impressed at how good you can play the computer......now the guitar on the other hand....
sides, dont you ever see the movies with the guy singing to the girl with the mariachi band behind him? well, learn the guitar and save money! no mariachi band!! |

well lets see here. when was the last time you ran a virus scan? i know you mentioned spyware but it could be a virus.
windows 2000 doesn't have msconfig you can download and install msconfig for windows 2000 here
it could be a pIII they actually did come that slow believe it or not.
dunno about the dxdiag sounds like it had trouble running the last time. |

you know, come to think of it, we have closed the spybot thing before it finished scanning. that could be the problem |

defrag cleans up the disk, files could be scattered all over the place due to alot of usage and what not. doing a defrag would group the files together and cut down search times for the hard drive looking for files. |
