my whole goal in this is to purchase a car converter where i plug something into the cigarette lighter and then i can plug the laptop into that. so i'm trying to figure out how many watts this device is going to need to generate
Watts is voltage x amps; as an example use a 100 watt light bulb. You know the watts is 100, and the ac voltage is 110VAC, so devide watts by voltage (100/110) is about 0.9 amps. (So on a 15 amp breaker you could have 15 100 watt light bulbs all on at the same time )
We use this power measuring device: Model P4400 Kill A Watt. It plugs into a standard ac repticle and you plug the charger/powersupply into it. It will tell you the Watts Hertz Amps Volts and KWH
