Next level of Ads in Games
Yep.. ya got commercials now
Not just banners anymore
Advertising in videogames, dominated in the past by static ads such as billboards and signposts, is beginning to look more like TV commercials.
For the past few weeks, Massive Inc., a New York company that distributes ads in videogames, has been testing an ad with full motion and sound in a science-fiction game called Anarchy Online. Today, Massive will roll out the full-motion ad capability to advertisers generally.Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.

First ad companies get TV time, then they started showing before movies, now video games? Is nothing sacred to these people!?

lol vass, I wouldn't be surprised after the whole hot coffee mod crap.
I guess my biggest grief is that if I'm paying for a game, I don't expect to be blasted with spam as if it was freeware.
Is this the video game companies way of still making money when people who pirate the game?

Just as long as they made the ads destructable in game.

Anarchy Online has a free client and a paid version mixed in, so I can't really grumble about in game ads, as I have leeched a lot of free gameplay from them prior to me taking the upgrade to a paid account.
More money? Is nothing sacred to these people!?

Im fine with raceing games with billboards in the game and also in sports games, heck i even like them. but once you put ads in a game like CSS or HL2, Doom3, farcry ...etc then no way. i just will quit gamming and do a boycott tot speak cause this is rediculas. next will be like batman in the way joker put commercials in the peoples dreams.

July 26th, 2005, 10:32 PM #12This reminds me of the Pentium 9 poster ad that can be found in Halo...LOL... Anyway there have been ads in games since TMNT 2 for the NES. Pizza hut had signs in that game if I remember right. The most recent I can think of is Taco Bell in Project Gotham Racing.

It just bothers me that they put them in movies...I just paid 7 bucks for my ticket and another 7 for my girlfriends. I want to see good previews and the movie, not Coke a cola.

Actaully I thinks it adds reality to the game, but whatever.
Maybe more games such as Anarchy online will be free for longer if they add ads?

I wouldn't mind having an ad or two for those campers in CS to watch....

They're gonna do it in CS? Hopefully they put on little TV's instead of it being projected like a drive-in movie theatre on a wall. I strongly believe commercials can take the fantasy-reality out of the game... O_o

Ads are fine for me, as long as they don't MAKE you watch them. If they start doing that, it is time to PROTEST!

We were at the coast, on the beach and then a pier at the rivermouth. The buzz I caught was this big, but it got away.:fishing:
