I have a feeling this is more than missing files. Moving computers can have problems show up and it's not always on first use. Try turnnig it off, un-plug, and gently move it around a bit. Turn it on, if it starts to work you need to shut down and check and re-seat all cables. |

There is a c:\ prompt waiting for me. |

No that your cd is 1st priority you just have to stick it in the drive. Can you get one from work or something? |

I'll ask for it on Monday and go from there. I'll come back and let you know what happens.
THANK YOU for all of your help!!!!! |

Does it not bother anyone that her cmos is not seeing any drives at all? No hard drive or cd-rom drive! Maybe I missed something but I don't see any drives being found by the cmos. |

Andy, It was in advanced. I set the 1st Boot Device to CDRom, and the 2d to IDE-0.
Then the bootup screen reads:
Pri Master HDD Error
Pri Slave HDD error
Run SETUP
Press F1 to resume
| .
If the mother board, cables, hard drive, and cd-rom were all working correctly the bootup screen would tell you the type of hard drive, the amount of space on it and the mode. The cd-rom would also be identified. This all happens before there is any chance to read the operating system. It would not say "hdd error" like she said hers does. Boot your own computer and see. |

In case you guys missed the first post: Quote:
Main Processor: AMD-K6
Procesor Clock: 233MHz
VGA Memory: 1MB
Checking NVRAM ....... 32,768KB OK
Pri Master: 14.10R11 WDC AC24300L
| So cmos is picking up the HDD (WD 2.4G) ...... maybe she forgot to type the part about the Primary Slave, the Secondary Master & Slave; but I haven't seen that question pop up yet.
But I'm a bit curious, I don't think XP will run on an AMD K6 with a processor clock of 233 MHz and only 32Mb of NVRAM. I'm thinking Win `98SE, would be her best bet for a stable OS on that machine.
As far as the move having an effect on the unit. Maybe an IDE cable (secondary) or a molex power cord inside the unit came loose in the transport.

But if the inability to use the keyboard is not addressed first .....
nothing else will matter ...... RIGHT? |

I don't thing the move had anything to do with it. It booted at least the first time at home, then she deleted files. |

| Ya I realize that but later she had NO drives found of any kind and that is what I was refering to. Thus a hardware type problem.
Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think you can delete somthing in the oS and have it make your drives dissappear in the cmos. Except I do know there are a few utilities by one or two of the mobo manufacturers that will actually let you set up some things in the bios while the OS is running. |
