Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think you can delete somthing in the oS and have it make your drives dissappear in the cmos. | I was saying that I didn't think there was something you could delete that would make your keyboard stop functioning .... especially in the DOS portion of the boot process.
AM I WRONG?
She won't be able to enter the CD Key or install anything if the keyboard is down. |

My question is...have you already got a disk from somewhere before you began changing the boot priorities??
EDIT: The question was asked before me |

Since she says she is able to type at the c prompt now, maybe she can browse the recovery cd to begin execution. Maybe she deleted something dealing with the auto execution. |

ok first off she can use her keyboard so forget about that, she's already changed priorities through bios. Second she's not running xp, it will be me she is trying to put on which I assume she is running at work. Thirdly lets just wait on this hard drive not being detected thing till she's actually got hold of a me disk. That message didnt come up intil after she changed her priority and her hdd was being detected fine before that, see her first post |

DumbGirl is back!!
My IT guy game me Windows 200 Professional this afternoon. Using the help I received on these boards, I was able to install it just now: by first going to Advanved and having it boot from the CD, then after loading Windows, going back to Advanced and having it boot from the hard drive. I knew NOTHING about how to do this before visiting with you wonderful people. I can't thank you enough!!!
But of course, you give and give, and here I am, asking for more...
Now that I have the kids' computer actually working again, how do I find out if it has a sound board? My boys want to play computer games, and before I go buy speakers, I want to make sure they will hear the special effects. On the front of the tower is a headphones outlet. I plugged headphones into it and put a game on but heard nothing. Ideas? |

The headphones outlet on the front of your computer is the one for your cd/dvd. The easiset way to check it is plug the headphones into the socket in the back of your computer then play something with sound, you will probably have some kind of sound even if it is just onboard. Let us know if you try it and dont hear anything |

So, I did it, and my music CD played just fine. I guess all I need now is a set of speakers and cords for them, and my boys can finally play baseball on their computer.
THANK YOU ANDY!!! |
