Don't get ValueRAM. Even if it is dual channel, you get what you pay for. I've built 2 computers that were identical except for the fact that one had valueram in it and it couldnt even unzip a big folder without freezing.
EDIT: And if this is going to be a gaming computer you might want to make that hard drive serial ata.My PC:37" 1080p Sceptre LCD - ASUS VENTO Case - 500w Ultra PSU - P5B Deluxe - e4300 @ 3.4ghz - 4GB DDR800 - VistionTek HD3870 - Plantronics DSP-500

August 17th, 2005, 01:21 AM #3What a load of crap, I have ValueRam, you must be using something slower, or lieing, and why Intel and not AMD, if its for gaming, and that card id recommend going too a 6600GT or X800Xl if you can afford it.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with Valueram. If your not overclocking it's a great buy.
I find it a bit odd that you are paying more for a soundcard than you are for your motherboard, not a good place to skimp.
Ditch that motherboard and CPU and go for a Athlon64 3200+ it will greatly outperform your current CPU choice especially in games.
SATA is not a neccessary option from a performanc standpoint, but it is probably best that you get SATA from an upgrading stanpoint.
Spend a few extra bucks and get a 6600GT over the 9800pro, it's just not worth it to buy the 9800pro these days.

I'm not lying. There must be something wrong with it because it's running a P4 3.0 with A Gig of Corsair Dual Channel Value RAM with a CLEAN INSTALL of windows and it froze while trying to unpack a 650MB .rar

August 17th, 2005, 02:16 AM #8Man there is nothing bad with ValueRAM, I have 6 systems with those chips he posted and all off them have been working with out any issue.... Pure gaming systems..

Maybe it was bad luck? It still seems a littl odd though. At the time the only difference was one computer had Hyper Threading and a different brand of RAM. Would the HTT make that much of a difference?

August 17th, 2005, 02:25 AM #10I highly doubt it.

i would reccomend getting this motherboard instead...it uses pci-e so you can get a more futureproof video card and yu also have the option of getting ddr2 for more futureproofability ...this board also supports the pentium D so you can get a pentium D 820 for not much more than the 640 and get much more power when multi-tasking/video rendering or anything else intel processors excel at
i agree with going for an sata drive because of the ncq and not much price difference...and also with not spending so much on a sound card...onboard is fine for just about everybody...if you have to have an audigy check here http://www.slickdeals.net/#p6388Hey who turned sigs on?

I would definitely go for AMD if I was you, for what you get it turns out alot cheaper, especially in the mid range of CPU/MB for Intel vs AMD.
Desktop: Athlon X2 4200, 2GB, 768mb GTX460, 320GB
Laptop: HP Dv6: Phenom II n930, Radeon HD4250 + Radeon 5650, 4GB, 500GB

August 17th, 2005, 11:39 AM #13Might I ask why? You are paying quite a bit more for alot less performance. The economics and abilities of the Intel processor just doesn't make sence for a gaming machine.

I agree with HeadBand. My only argument when I saw your list besides that you are using intel lol is that a 50 dollar motherboard isnt going to be able to keep up with a 240 dollar processor. I would suggest getting a board with onboard audio, and put the extra cash into a solid mother board. I my self would suggest an Asus board, they are easy to work with.
My setup:
AMD Athlon 2600+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
1 Gig. Mushkin DDR2700
ATI 9600SE 128 MB 8X AGP
200 GB HD
Widnows XP Home Edition

I dunno, I was just trying to stick with something i knew, because I've never had the chance to have an AMD, or use one, and what i heard b4, it was kinda just a IMO about which is better, like some people prefer ford over chevy, that kinda thing. But the way you guys are talking I'll try it out, and I'll ditch the Sound Card, or maybe just find something lighter, so can you guys help me find a good AMD mother board and processor? I'm not really sure what's good out there and what isn't for them, if need be I'll find a new case and RAM that will be campatible.

August 17th, 2005, 12:41 PM #19NO need the CASE, and RAM, you have is fine, the CASE is ATX?

K, yes it is ATX, but i was just saying, if the AMD stuff uses diff, i can change it to find something similar, like i said i don't know much bout AMD

That processor only clocks at 2.0 Ghz, isn't that worse than the pentium i had picked out?Last edited by jentzsch; August 17th, 2005 at 12:46 PM.
