| Grinding Noise "quick help"
Wtsup guys, Like not all the time, but when I turn my comp on sometimes, there will be this grinding noise, and it sounds like a fan, but it won't happen all the time. I don't know what the problem would be since it doesn't happen all the time. Help?

You just need to be ready to listen with a piece of tubing or something when it happens. Have your case open, and the case turned out for access.
Mine makes a funny fan noise when the weather starts getting cooler.
Make sure it isn't your HDD! If it is, don't shut down, and move your important stuff to a CDR or DVDR

could be his fan throttling? is this a new sound or has it always done it? Does it only make this noise as you start to do more intensive stuff of the computer. Maybe the fan is just dying and when it throttles it makes a lot of noise (i'm hoping for your sake lol) |

This also happens to me once in a great while. I just quickly turn it off, wait a minute, start it up again and it's fine. |

yeah smidley, that's wat i do. Nah the other day I oopened it and turned it on, and it made the noise, so when i turned it off, i saw one of the rear fans stop right away, while the otheres just slowed down to a stop. So i figured that was why it made that noise, cus it was stuck or something, So I just changed for a new fan. Now it happend again but don't know wat it is. But it wont happen all the time. And it somtimes just happends like the first 10-20 secs wen i start my comp, after that its all good. |

more than likely it is the fans at start up, if you dont have a good ear, might want to do a series of tests and unplug each fan one by one to pinpoint which one is making the noise. pretty sure you have to restart the computer each time, dont think you can just plug in a fan and itll work immediately.
How old is your HDD, cuz sometimes old HDDs make that sound cuz their motors are tired of spinning at the max speed when you load up

if it happens usually when you start your computer for 10 to 20 seconds it's the processor fan throttling i'd almost put money on it. If it's only once in a while that it's happening but when it does happen...it's right after you turn power on...then I'd say replace the cpu fan...cus it's letting go! |

turn of the processor cache and see if it'll install correctly. that'll slow down the computer even mroe but on older processors i've found that the cache fails and causes problems like that on install . |

well i don't think my parts are the issue, cus its a new 120 gig HD, and 3.0ghz p4 with a new thermaltake LGA 775 socket fan. And I put dual fans on my HD |
