Question
How do I burn DVDs using Nero and DVD Shrink??

Hi there,

I just installed a Sony DVD burner into my computer, plus Nero, and then downloaded DVD Shrink, in order to burn DVDs that I want to burn. But since I'm a newbie to all of this . . . I haven't a clue where to start, or what to do.

How do I burn a DVD onto a DVD+R disc, using Nero and DVD Shrink? What are the steps to doing this?

Thank you!
--- Vi

Open shrink. Select open disc. Select backup. Only do this with discs you own.

Umm..... first of all. You may want to edit your post a bit before it gets edited for you. What you are asking to do is illegal! Once edited and you would like to know to back up home movies using DVDShrink and Nero, I'm sure there are many who are willing to help, myself included.

Sounds simple enough. But then where does Nero come into the equation? O_o

Sorry if this all has a very obvious answer; but I'm easily confused, as you may have noticed. ^^;

Shrink uses the Nero burning engine to burn the disc. If it is not installed, then shrink's integrated burning feature won't work.
LilGeo, it is not illegal to make a backup of a copyrighted disc that you own for your own personal use.

Okay, thank you! But, one more thing . . . whenever I put a disc in either of my drives, and then open Shrink, and then click on 'Open Disc' . . . I only have one option to select from, and it reads as: "E:/ 'NO DISC'" Er. Huh?

Wait a few seconds until the drive busy light goes out. Does the disc show up in 'My Computer'?
There is a drop down box in shrink with 'select dvd drive' or similar. Make sure you choose the right drive in there.

Sorry about that, you're right. I guess I meant what his post could possibly implie might get him some grief. My bad.

Ya, if nero is installed, DVDShrink will automatically use it to burn. If it says NO DISK, it could be a couple things. make sure you give the drive enough time to load the disc and also I've found that if the disc is dirty or scratched, it will not register in Shrink sometimes but will in My Computer. That's the only drawback to Shrink. It is very picky about the condition of the disc. I've been using it for about a year.

Gah, this is frusterating. . . .

I waited long enough for the drive to load the disc; and the DVD disc itself isn't scratched or anything, since it's brand new. And it's not in My Computer, either. Yeesh, maybe I just have bad luck? o_O

Oh, and on Shrink, I clicked every possible clickable thing, and there's no drop-down menu with 'Select DVD Drive,' or anything.

I have two drives in my computer --- the first one is a DVD player, and the second one (drive E, I think) is the burner. Still, it's not recognizing anything. . . .

P.S. thank you for both of your help, though. I really appreciate it. ^^;

The box should appear when you click on 'open disc'.
Get the latest version of shrink from the downloads section at www.doom9.org and reinstall it.
