Startup problem. help!!!!!

I have an AMD 1400 with
dvd drive
cdrw driver
256meg ram
40 gig maxtor hard drive

all was ok untill this morning when I switched the pc on, it make a constant bleep sound.
I've reset the memory and the ide cables for the drives but this has made no diffence.
There is a LCD display on the motherboard which show C1

Can anyone tell me what is going on and how I sould resolve this??
Any help is much appreciated.

Do you have the manual for the board? It will tell what C1 means.
If you don't have the manual do you know the brand and model of the board?

no manual but I have just found that n the board it is printed EP 8k7A. assuming this is an epox motherboard. might be able to download a manual from the site.
