Fried, Dells take the same upgrade parts as everybody else. Just can't use cheap RAM. |

Not really, now they are going to standard ATX/BTX [if BTX stays].
And, the x800GT would be a lot better than the 6800. |

This Dell power supply adapter shows their PSU's were proprietary from 1998 to about 2002. Like osprey & Reather have said, Dell switched to ATX or BTX over the past 3 years.
I have a Dimension 8100. An adapter wasn't ever made for it. It is the one that uses a standard ATX connector with a non-standard pinout. |

And, the x800GT would be a lot better than the 6800. | How much better? My video card is constantly overheating and crashing because it's fanless and I'm going to RMA it soon. If they will let me I'm going to see if I can trade the card out because I haven't really had a good experience with nVidia so far compared to my old ATi cards.
Also, I wouldn't get the x800GT i'd get the Sapphire GTO2 and flash it to a X850 XT PE.

I have a Thermaltake Purepower 420w in my dell...works fine, and has since Spring when I bought it...and I know of a few people who dropped new s939 mobos in their dell cases without any problems. So dell uses standard ATX equipment...but everyone thinks they don't... Well, dell doesn't use ATX anymore...but that is because they are using BTX, but they are using the BTX standard now. Quote: |

I'm about to buy a New Dell Dimension E510.
I'm new in the PC area, so bare with me.
The Dell comes with a (upgrade) Radeon x600, which I might get...but I was thinking about getting a Geforce 6600 instead. Is there anything special the Geforce 6600 should have to be able to use in the Dimension e510? I know the SOCKETS the Dimension e510 775, but does it matter when purcahsing a video card? or does the socket only bother with CPUs and Motherboards? Please, help me out. Thanks alot in advance.
BTW, hello and I'm new

BTW, hello and I'm new | Hi welcome you should make a new thread and not hijack others but since you are new i will let it pass sockets are onley for prosessors but there is agp and pci-e witch are slots on the mobo for the graphics card you need to know it you have agp or pci-e before buying a new card and if you have pci-e then you need a pci-e card and vice versa good luck with that . |
