| Upgrading a Dell Dimension e510
My friend has this dell... http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...pecstab#tabtop
He wants to upgrade his video card and RAM, he has $250 to spend. The motherboard is DDR2, since im not too familiar with DDR2 i thought the people at Techimo could help me pick out some from Newegg.
And since he needs PCI-E I was thinking something along the lines of a X800GT..but will a 300W PSU be enough? He wants this to play CS:S with pretty good FPS (around 70) with almost all settings on high.
Thanks. |

He currently has 256MB in there, I was thinking to just get a gig and toss the current stick he has in there now. |

Get a GIG of Corsair ValueRAM and look for a refurbed 6800/6600GT
EDIT: If you're going to toss that stick, make sure it's Dual Channel. If not, then put them all in there considering he has 4 DIMM slots.

Look for some PC2 4200 value ram. It will provide a better jump in performance than PC2 3200.
EDIT: EX beat me to it, that's the exact stuff I was thing about. |

And will that PSU fit in his case? |

Well, DDR 2 uses higher speeds...but has a higher latency...so they are pretty close...when you get DDR2 go one speed faster, and it is the same as DDR...like get PC 4200 DDR2...and it is as good as PC3200 DDR.
The powersupply should work... |

Keep in mind that Dell has a nasty habit of building computers with their own proprietary parts. Especially power supplys and motherboards.
