I turned on my windows 95 comp. and it says operating system not found.
now when i was building my friend's comp, i took out the wide connector cable from the harddrive in my 95, then put it in my friend's comp.
well, then i replaced it with another wide connector cable from my girlfriend's compac, and when i turned on the 95, it says "operating system not found"
wtf... please help |

Are the master/slave jumpers and wide connector cables set up right?
Are you sure the hard drives arent dead?

ya, because I'm guessing the HDD's you got from those two people's computers were set to master when you got em.
Try one hdd with windows 95 and see what happens. |

Yea, make sure the IDE cable is plugged in correctly and into the correct IDE connector on the motherboard. Also the hard drive should be plugged into the end connector of the cable. |

Are the HDDs detected at all in the bootup scan?
Are you using 68-pin SCSI when you say "wide" connector, or do you mean 80-pin IDE? |

now the problem is, i got the harddrive hooked up.
but i had to do using the connector cable that hooked up the disc drive. so now the disc drive is no longer hooked up. i have like an extra cable, but it's used for the floppy drive. and the connector cable for the hard drive right now has a mid connector so it can hook up more than one device to the motherboard. but it's not long enough to reach both the harddrive and disc drive. i want to have both working because mom is angry and she knows nothing of computers. anyway please help. |
