| Picture 'Save As' Problem
Just recently I've started to have a problem when I attempt to capture a web picture. When the image is on by browser and I right click and select 'save picture as,' the only option that appears is to save an untitled bitmap image. This is unusual in that the picture has a title and is in jpeg format as confirmed in its properties. Until recently, if I attempted to save this picture, the popup window would list the name of the picture and by default the .jpg file extension for a jpeg. (This is a generalization - I am not talking about one specific picture that I am having trouble with!) I have checked settings for my browser, windows, file associations, etc., but I'm not finding a solution. Does anybody know what has happened and how I can fix this annoying problem?!?
The following url is just an example of a pic that is on the forum right now. It is a jpeg, but I only have the option to save it as a .bmp file! http://www.techimo.com/forum/attachm...=&postid=72397
Thanks. |

Sounds like something has changed file associations for you. When you checked file associations, did you drill down into the extension for .jpg and see what actions were there? What was listed?
Also, what version OS and browser do you have? May make a difference, as some versions of IE are a bit spotty.

The actions shown for the file association with jpeg was merely 'open.' Although I'm not overly knowledgable about what actions might be in the association, the association properties look just like they have always looked. I'm running W98SE and IE 6.0.26. I should mention, and it is important, that every once in a while I will get my normal 'save as jpg,' maybe 5% of the time, but never twice in a row! I was thinking perhaps a registry problem, but it could be IE......I'm at a loss as to how to fix it though.
Thanks for the reply. |

I have the problem about once a month but a restart fixes it. |

Zabedr, if you drill down into open and choose edit under file associations there should be a program there. What is it? Mine is Irfanview. Yours may be Paint, photo editor or IE. If it's paint, try downloading Irfanview ( www.irfanview.com) and seeing if it fixes it. It should make .jpg 's act as .jpg's if nothing else.
You should also check to see what is associated with a .bmp file as well, just to see what would make it be a .bmp.
I think it is an IE thing, somehow.

Mick.....my program (I assume the default program) is quickview, which I have used for years.....although I believe it to be bundled with the IE version, because this is a different quickview than the standalone version I used nearly a year ago. I'll take a look at the new program but I see that as a possible alternative, but not a solution. There is still something that has changed on my system.
CW....I really hoped (or didn't hope??) it would be that easy....a reboot, but it was a possibility in that I leave my system running almost continuously. I did reboot and the problem still exists although I had somewhat better luck on pictures...about a third of the small sample I tried showed as jpegs when I attempted to save. This seems to be an anomoly - - perhaps another app is causing intermittent interference!?! (still probing here.....)
Thanks again....there will be an answer in our future! |

I'm having the same problem also. I don't think it has much to do with extensions.
Is there a known fix yet? |
