Can anyone recomment a good power sup 500-600w?

Hi

I'm putting together a system, and have decided on all the components but the power sup, and was wondering if I could please get some recommendations?

Here's the system:

AMD X2 4800+
asus a8v deluxe
2gB of either corsair XMS pro or crucial ballistix (pc3200 or maybe higher)
4 Hard drives
5 PCI cards
2 rom drives
floppy drive
couple o' fans

After lots of research, this is the best system for me.

A couple of points:

- noise is not an issue - the computer is situated in a different room to my workspace (studio recording)
- I don't mind paying more for a higher rated power sup, even if it's a couple of 100w more than I may need - I like the idea of having overhead to spare, and to help keep the system stable
- I may be overclocking this sytem at some stage
- allow for the possible later addition of a cooling system
Thanks!

Shaun

I don't know if you live in the UK or the US because if you lived in the USA, newegg is a place to look at.

I'd recommend anything ThermalTake, and Antec

A high end Fortron if budget is a concern, if not a PC Power and Cooling is the top end choice...
Antec isnt the best choice unless your overseas of US...
US prices for Antecs are too high...

Yes occasionally you can find a sale on them...
But in general they are overpriced for what you get...
You could have gotten a better PSU for less, you paid for the Antec name...
Besides, a budget 430 model is not what he wants for a rig like that...

everyone has an oppinion... i've seen antecs and enermaxes both blow up in front of me that were fairly new. i've heard people have problems with the thermaltake ones and xconnect psu's also.

i have heard people prattle on about sparkle being all that, but haven't seen them at 600W.

i personally have 2 pc power and cooling PSU's (a 400W and a 440W) powering systems in my house, one is on a server and the PSU is over 5 years old, runs 24/7 and has been for most of that time.

the other one powers the components in my sig, run it pretty much 24/7, and it almost 3 years old. it was in a system when i (stupidly) fried my motherboard by not following proper power disconnecting procedures... the PSU was fine of course. that same month i whitnessed an antec blow up simply by being plugged in, saw the spark come from the inside of the power supply. replaced the power supply and the system booted fine, no damage to any components with no explanation of why it blew up (no scortch marks anywhere on the case)

of course you will pay for the reliability of pc power and cooling products... my 440W cost me about $200. but a bonus... they now have a 1000W psu. they don't rate their PSU's at peak power... they rate them at average output.... which basically means they can effectively put out peak +30% of what they are rated for without issue (unlike most PSu's that are sold at their rated peak power, and average power handles only 70% of their advertised rating).

LOL... thats mostly because there are only a VERY few practical purposes for anything over 450 - 500
Even most heavily laden setups use less than 400W
A 550 Fortron is better and more reliable than most other 600W offerings from most other companies

Sparkle/Fortron Source rate the same way... at practical levels not optimum...
PC Power and Cooling are for the elite when price isnt a concern...

Know what I noticed and I don't think any of you did? The lack of videocards! Even a good 400w would be able to more than handle that, without videocards of course.

Yeah, what videocard are you getting?
As for a PSU, a FSP Group [Fortron Source or Sparkle] in the 500-600 watt range will be great. Something like these-
This at the minimum-

Preferably something like this-

Or, this-
