I have a small peer to peer LAN running two win2K and two win98 machines through a switch and the whole thing accesses the internet via an ADSL modem.
Via an ADSL filter a couple of telephones access the line, too.
At one telephone location there's either an answering machine instead of the phone plugging into the filter (and the phone goes into the answering machine) or there's a fax machine plugged into the filter (and the phone goes into the fax machine).
I want to plug the answering machine into the filter, the fax machine into the answering machine ( as per the instructions that came with the (Lexmark 3 in 1) fax machine) and plug the phone into the fax machine.
Then the whole thing will be set up as I want it.
I need to check that the fax machine will answer on AUTO and on MANUAL, I need to adjust the number of rings and test again, I need to introduce and take out the answering machine. And test again.
But how to test? Who is going to FAX me?
Really I need to FAX myself.
I've looked for free email/fax programmes that I thought I might use but for one reason or another I havn't found one that I can use.
That tcp.int thing looks like a winner but there's no coverage in my area.
Insane though it might sound I haven't a single friend with a fax machine I can ask to send me a few faxes during the testing period.
I'm hoping there might be a test service somewhere out in the world there.
Or maybe some organisation/govt department that automatically will send you a fax on receipt of some simple query - I could use something like that.
Anyone got any clues that might help?
regards,
ab
