Dell Dimension 4600

There are generally four main retainers holding a supply to the wall of the case. A
phillips head screwdriver with the approxmate size tip will easily extract those. But
the disconnection of all connectors from all drives as well as the main board are a
requisite to insure no damage. A cd rom drive as well as any other drive or device
that goes into a 5 1/4" bay is usually held by four sometimes only two retainers. A
phillips head screwdriver is the usual tool for removal them as well. Once removed
the drive slides out of the bay. First disconnect the ide cable as well as the power
plug before loosening fasteners and sliding drive out of bay.

Ya, it takes DDR 400...I would reccomend crucial...since they are the ones that supply dell with ram...

Just unscrew them...you will need to take the front panel off for the cd drive...there are 3 clips on the inside of the case by the front...push them up with your fingers(the top one has a metal piece that you push down on instead) and the cover will come off...

You have to have a side panel off usually to reach in to press on one the face plate tabs. A
light pressure at first there is used to avoid breaking the preformed plastic retaining clips. It
does seem to become second nature after a few times doing changes like this. But the word
of caution for first timers is not to force anything. Take your time and do things one step at
a time to see good results. After a few times you will be swapping hardwares for friends!
