webcam for surveillance

Can a webcam be used for surveillance?

Is there a maximum length that a USB cable can be?

Can I use my pc to store the webcam images, like a CCTV does on a VHS tape, so that I can play them back at a later time?

creative web cams work very well

http://www.americas.creative.com/pro...08&product=259

i have the web cam 3 and it had software that cam on when ever anything new moved near it. It would start filming and save the pictures or movies to the hard drive.

good quality too.

Your very own "spy cam"

Curious about what is happening at home when you are not around? Wonder no more! The Creative WebCam Monitor application uses sophisticated motion detection to take a snapshot when anybody -- or anything -- gets near your PC. Images can even be automatically uploaded to your web site, so you can monitor them from another location!
thats from there site

Never really looked into one of these webcams. Guess I was just too annoyed by all those dang X10 pop-ups. But this looks pretty cool. Might be my next toy.

What about running this through "PC Anywhere" to monitor in real time from a remote location?

I was looking at this,http://www.compusb.com/usbcameras.html, but they are out of stock.

if the computer is on a LAN and you don't know how to lock down pc anywhere right it can be a big secuirty issue. Use VNC, free and small and from what i heard works good

NDC,
Do you have a link on the repeater?

What does 25m convert to in feet?
