I am having a problem with my computer CD writer since installing Norton AV 2006 last month.
I have Windows XP and InCD writer. The computer had Norton AV2002 installed when new and this was updated by subscription each year until this year when I had to install 2006 version from a CD, as the subscription service would not accept my order.
The problem is similar to that described on the Symantec Support web site (Document ID 2003050715532006 under "Cannot access a CD-ROM or removable drive after installing Norton AntiVirus".)
In my case, when I try to write to the CD, I go through the preparation stages as normal but when I get to the CD Writing Wizard, it does not recognise that a CD is in the drive, and gives a message "There is no disc in the drive",
By trial and error I have found that the only way I can overcome this is to right click on the CD drive from 'My Computer', go to 'Properties', then 'Recording'. On this menu there is a box for 'Automatically eject the CD after writing', If this is already ticked, I have to untick it, click 'Apply', and immediately the spare space is shown on the screen and I can then write the file to the CD. However, if I remove the CD and try to write the file to another, or even to the same CD, I get the message "There is no disc in the drive". I then go through the same procedure as above but this time I have to reverse whatever it already says in the 'Automatically eject…' box, and it then works. So, each time I want to write to a CD, I have to reverse this function.
I have uninstalled Norton AV2006 and the CD writing is OK without any of the above, as it has always been before. After re-installing Norton AV the problem returned.
I have tried the solutions given in the document mentioned above; the disable and re-enable routine did not work. I have installed the update from the InCD web site and have now installed InCD 4.3.20.1, but this also has had no effect.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem?
Thanks
