Random shutdown while playing WoW.

My computer keeps ramdomly shutting down while im playing World of Warcraft, I think its an issue with my PSU, Overheating, or a Virus but i could be wrong.

Could be your video card overheating too. What are your system specs? Do you have any hardware monitoring tools in windows. I'd recommend Everest to monitor you temps until you can narrow what the cause is. In my experience, this is usually a vid card overheating, but it doesn't have to be that.

Me like speedfan You should like too. Everest is just a bigger range of things to look at. Gives you temps, speeds, pixel rate, its like combining everything about your hardware into one program. Very useful if yer into that kinda stuff.

EDIT: Looking at speedfan now it just shows me fan speed and voltages. And cpu usage. I would really go with everest, but use speedfan as a backup to compare. Always good to have second opinion.

Try running a program called ATI Tool. It may be mean for ATI card but you can still use the handy scan for artifact and the nice 3D box that really gives your video card a stress. If you have any heat problems with your video card you would know for sure as your compter would probably lockup or restart. Since a GF2 probably doesnt have a temp sensor on it from a factory you could try the (more risky) method I just mentioned or you could go out and buy a temp monitering device and check that way.

Also the programs that Carp and dc mentioned are great for checking temps and voltages. I personally like Everest but speedfan works great as well.

I suggest you get your psu voltages from Everest and post them here then maby we can help you more. The thing about the psu voltages is you want them to be steady and within about a .3 range of what the standard voltages are in your psu. Also if you could post up what the brand of the psu and the 12v rail wattage is that could help as well.

If you think you may have a virus or some spyware try using Avast! or AVG for viruses and Ad-aware SE, Microsft Defender, and SpyBot Search and Destroy for your spyware/adware problems. There is also another little tool called CrapCleaner that I find very usefull as well. It will clean up all your internet temp files, cookies and whatnot. It also cleans up other "Crap" that may have accumulated on your computer. All these programs are free and are very useful and are necessities for ever Windows user.

I may be wrong, but I do not think an overheating video card is your problem simply becuase overheating cards GENERALLY do not cause a complete system shut down, but moreover, lockups, graphical glitches and possibly even reboots, but I have not seen one that actually caused a system to turn itself off, but anything is possible I guess.

My best guess would be either PSU related, or the processor is reaching shutdown temps... Crack open your case and clean out the dust, that would be the first thing I would try.

My guess is the PSU. Under stress, the PSU can't deliver enough power.

I appreciate your opinion, but most of the ati cards I have had that had issues were because of overheating. Ive had complete system restarts, shutdowns and lockups, but you are right anything is possible. It might not be that issue. Just had to mention my experience.
