Documents and Setttings Folder Going Slow

This problem has been occuring for a few months now, and I haven't been able to figure out why it's happening. Whenever I click my Documents and Settings folder, it will take around 30 seconds for it to actually open or even to highlight it. When I browse around in the folders inside of it, it also is very slow. I've defragged since and done a disk cleanup. Any help is appreciated.

There's some tmp files, not that many. I deleted them but nothing changed. I'm assuming the temp folder you were talking about is the one in Local Settings and not the one in my windows folder.

OS has been installed for a couple years with no reformat. Don't have a registry cleaner, pc is clean of spyware/adware/viruses.

no...a registry cleaner just removes registry keys that are no longer needed....everytime you save a file and move or delete it a registry value is stored in your registry...you can imagine after 2 years how many key values you might have that are for noxexistant files...i never like to tell someone to format...but if you don't have a lot of files to back-up.....put the stuff you want to save on a c.d......back up yur mail if you use outlook express and want to keep saved mail.....do a fresh install....of course you'll have to re-install all your software again....but you should have a faster system again
