    Geforce 6200 question

I bought a XFX Geforce 6200 256MB AGP video card and send it to a friend. He said the card works ok except for his cpu running at 100%.

Here is his note: "The card work ok,, the only problem is each time i change a setting in the card or my desktop setting, it run my cpu at 100% from 30c up to 80c for 10min without stoping, and i have to reboot. Once i reboot it is ok I update the driver, but no change. thank again kool"

Any suggestion why his system acts the way it does?

Go into your task manager and find out which exact process is eating up the CPU cycles. Post back here with your findings.

Are those temps? And of the CPU or GPU?
I doubt his temps jump that extreme.

Here is some more info on my friend graphics card problen

    nvidia support......

CPU usage is at 99% (rscmpt.exe)

    Question
After installing the display drivers, my CPU usage is at 99%. The
    file
'rscmpt.exe' seems to be the cause. When this file is removed, my
    total
video memory is lower than what it should be. How do I fix this?

    Answer
The file "rscmpt.exe" is not part of the NVIDIA Forceware unified
    driver
package. This file has been found packaged with drivers for other
    graphic
card vendors. The file doubles the amount of video memory reported by
Microsoft Windows and consumes around 99% of a computer's CPU. We do
    not
know the source of this file but if it was installed on your system, it
should be removed. If your graphics card video memory drops from specs
listed by your graphics card manufacturer, please contact the retailer
    where
    you purchased your graphics card.

    New Problem
i could not find the file so i reinstall windows xp it is ok now...but
it is freezing up every minute with a buzzing sound in the speaker
when i try to open some of my programs .
I put my old video card in and the programs open up not has pretty as
the new card but with no freezing up.
I am still using the new card it is faster and the graphic is pretty,
when it freeze i just reboot every time ( kool )

    Any suggestion

Are you using the latest drivers from Nvidia's web page?

Have you also updated your motherboard's chipset drivers?

You may be overheating. Check the temp of your CPU using Everest Home. Also check the temp of your graphics card. It should be in your graphics card control panel.

Do you meet the power supply requirments for the 6200? What is the brand and wattage of your power supply?
