computer back to normal

I removed Norton 2006 from my computer and it is back to normal, I downloaded from the Microsoft website WinDefender, is that any good, What is best anti virus I can use with windows xp?

Avast is very good.

Windows Defender is more of an Anti-Spyware program, I don't think it does anything against Viruses.

For a firewall, I would get Sygate Personal Firewall.
