Building a computer

Hi guys, I plan on purchasing a computer from http://www.cyberpowerpc.com
I have about $2900 or so to spend, thats with shipping and CA sales tax (expensive =/) This is a gaming PC that hopefully will last me awhile. I allready have a monitor, speakers and soundcard so don't need those. I heard it's hard to install windows xp on raid0, so i'm having them do it. I'm not sure on the PSU, if I install windows xp myself and save $89. I can get ASPIRE (BLACK) ATX-AS680W-BK 680W BEAST POWER ATX POWER SUPPLY for an extra $40

Or I can downground the motherboard to a ABIT KN9 SLI nForce 570 SLI MCP Chipset DDR2/800 SATA-II RAID 16x PCI-Express MBoard w/GbLAN,USB2.0,&7.1Audio and save $45, and use $40 for that PSU (if it's good) and still get windows xp.

The price for below is $3,010.48 with sales tax and shipping. But i'll get a 5% instant rebate which comes out to 2874.43.
Well here is the specs that I plan on getting. Any comments or help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to TechIMO!!!

Wow, with that budget you can build yourself a better computer for less, if your into that kind of thing.

Thanks I use to build my own computers, but this site is cheaper then me buying the parts and putting it together myself.

Also, another PSU I can get is ANTEC TPII-550 550WATT ATX 12V POWER SUPPLY for extra $45

I'm not really good on what PSU's are better

Yeah, but you get a lot more choices w/ building it yourself. You could probably build a better one than the one you got there.

I'm just going to say this once but If your budget is that high imo wait for conroe to ship in there as it "should" be cheaper if you get the 6600 which I heard runs the same speed as that FX62 .. plus it will be wht a third of that price .. although the memory and mobo's tend to cost more but will give you plenty of extra cash spare then also to then upgrd the other parts in that pc

jus IMO thats what i'd do

That would be a good thing to do. I'd get the 6700 since you have the cash.

It would be quite beneficial for you to hold off for a couple weeks for a Core Duo 2 processor.

IMO(in my opinion) its not very smart to spend that much on a computer all at once. Espcially since you have built your own before and are knowledgable.
Spend 2000$ at most and save the rest to upgrade later. DX10 cards will be available in the next 6months most likely and you'll definetly want to upgrade then.

You are incorrect thinking its cheaper rather than building yourself. Also when you build urself, you have more options and usually come out with all quality components. With that type of money, you should be getting an x-fi sound card, 2 Lightscribe DVD burners, and more storage. You dont need 2 raptors. Lose one of them and pick up a 250gb HD.

Thanks for all the replys.

I don't need a soundcard, I don't need a mouse, I don't need a burner really, I don't need storage. I have all those allready except burner, but it's not important to me.

I've been "holding off" for awhile now on purchasing a computer, new things are ALWAYS going to come out, I held off till AM2 etc, So no longer waiting, unless new parts come out by Aug 5th or so.

I've went through this before in trying to find my own parts, it's a pain. As I don't know what is better really. So many parts and new ones coming out, I just go in circles.
