My sister is picking out a Dell Laptop for college. She needs it for regular use only: Word, music, AIM, Internet... nothing special.
Size isnt too big of a deal, therefore the 15" seems to be in the sweetspot for price. Budget is around 700$, anything under would be nice as well.
The two it has come down to is the:
Inspiron 6400 Dual Core - Small Buisness http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...6400sd13&s=bsd
E1505 Dual Core - Dell Home http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...e=ss&c=US&l=EN
They seem to be identical in specs and look the same...except for the small CPU variation. DO you guys know of any other difference of the two?
Can anyone buy from Small Buisness?
Any other comments would be appreciated! |

The E series machines are newer models of the 6400 series. I think the chipsets might be different. The 6400 I had had an Intel 900 series. The E series have Intel 950, I think.
On the other hand, I may be completely wrong. |

Anyone can buy from Dell SB. If there is ever a rebate involved at Dell SB, just be sure to list your name as the business name, as rebate checks are sent in the "business" name.
The i6400 (6W300 - i6400sd13) setup is a good deal. If she would prefer a thin and light model, also check out this 640m (6W300 - i640msd13) deal: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...640msd13&s=bsd |

Higher Ed purchases qualify for discounts for Dell.
Any discounts on the home side is carbon copied at the EPP side, except for the coupon codes. Like 30% off X amount coupons, but usually at the same time there'll be percentage off anyway with up to 12% off. Then there are stackable coupons that are floating around for more savings.
The EPP link for the schools are usually dell.com/schoolname or you could visit the EPP side by going to dell.com/dellu |

On the other hand, I may be completely wrong. | The machines are actually Identical in every way. They just name them differently for business and home segments. On a side note in Europe the business models are actually the "e" series and the i6400 (and the like) are sold on the home site. Quote: |

When I bought my e1705 there was a $750 off $1999 and up plus the 12% off among some other deals with low priced warranties. It all depends on when she wants to buy.
