    Upgrading computer soon...

Hey all, I'm thinking of upgrading my computer here in a few weeks or something. Here's what I'm looking to do.

My computer specs are listed below, but I'm thinking of getting:

    1) a new mobo (SLI)
    2) a new processor
    3) MAYBE another gig of RAM

Couple questions. I have an AGP 6800 GT. Will that work in an SLI mobo until I decide to upgrade the video cards? Also, what processor should I go for? I was thinking of upgrading like at the beginning of the summer and going for a 3700 (which was like $170) at the time but now EVERYTHING is like super cheap. A 3700 is like $90??! My budget for a processor is somewhere around $200-250 and I want AMD64.

So what processor and mobo should I get? (No more than $400 but not necessarily $399.99 lol). I was looking at Newegg and the AMD dual cores are looking pretty nice. How's a 4200 hold up these days? That's $170 and then I could throw an ASUS mobo in there?

    Thanks in advance!

I hate to admit it, but right now Intel has it all over AMD with its Core 2 Duo chips.

Theo's got a good point Core 2 Duo is superior, E6600 seems to be the best choice according to most accounts i've read (cos' of the 4mb L2 as opposed to th 2mb of the lower models)

IMO your GFX card is decent for now (I'm still clinging to a 6600GT PCI Express) BUT......http://www.slizone.com/object/slizon...e_winners.html
Reference question 3 i bet you cant get many PCI express x 16 speed (Qtyx2) with an AGP option also

So if SLI is your new bag you gotta forget AGP IMO

I'd definatly go X2 if you want to go the AMD route. Single core seems to be old news and outperformed.

But the ultimate question is what will you use it for ? This will help peolpe advise you on your purchases mate.

Ah.. well I was hoping to use it for some upcoming games and such. Mostly it's gaming. I do some minor programming and video editing (which utilizes processing power) but hardly anything to warrant buying hardware just for that.

And I was looking at AMDs X2, but what's everyones thoughts on Pentium at this point?
