I have to be skeptical that you pulled a working xp pro laptop out of the trash. Isn't there a rule on Techimo about giving out info on manuvering around passwords? Please correct me if I am wrong. |

nah thats a rule has been forever and a day
my guess if you really "found it" then someone stole it and dumped it
and pardon my skepticism if its misplaced but you did join the forum just for the purpose of finding a way to bypass a password sounds a lil too fishy

The novel prompt should come up after you log in. If it does come up after you log in, you should be able to just cancel and move on. Novell is just another alternate to Windows Server (network operating system).
**EDITED THIS PORTION BECAUSE I JUST READ THE REST OF THE POSTS. SOUNDS FISHY TO ME TOO**
Or you could try to figure out where the laptop came from, take it to the business, and they might reward you with a brand new laptop something like that. They might even get rid of the stuff on the laptop for you, and tell you to just keep it. Who knows ??

Belive me this laptop is farrrr from stolen. Heres the full story: A friend of mine was out garbage picking and found this laptop (An old Gateway 2500 disgined for windows 95) and gave it to his friend who is an IT guy for the navey. He used it for some time, and somehow put xp on it. Well in the navey, i guess, they use novell for monitering purposes. After this person got out of the navy, he gave it back to my friend who lives by me. Well, he couldnt log into Novell so he was going to throw it out, and I told him that I could find how to log into it on a fourm. So there, its not stolen, I mean come on, I wouldnt me that stupid, I too would belive that an working XP would not just be lieing in the trash. So if you could please help me, it would greatly be appricated. If you like, I could even email you a photo of the hold laptop with the winows XP loading screen if you still dont belvie me! |

Okay, Novell is a networking system and it is asking you for the login information. Same as logging into a Windows network. It's been a long time since I've used a Novell network, but you need the username and password. If it's old military, good luck! There maybe other levels of security too. You might be better off redoing the whole thing and formatting it with your own OS.
