dvd burner problem..

hey all,

any idea's whats wrong with my sony dvd player, it plays cd's and dvd's no problem and can read dvdr or cdr's also, but when i try and burn something it won't burn, i've used nero for awhile now and i know it's not the program, i even tried another program just to be sure. I think my burner is shot, but would it still be able to read cd's and dvd's? When nero would try and burn something and failed, it said something like my dvd drive might need to be re-calibrated or something, but i'm pretty sure this drive isn't good for burning anymore except playing dvd's and cd's...that sucks cause the drive is only a year old and a sony too, any idea's on what i can do if anything please let me know.

You could work on it for a week and still come up empty-handed or you could spend $30 and get a new one, though I am not sure that I would buy one from an outfit like Sony that doesn't really want anybody burning anything.
