Most Baffling Computer Problem I've ever seen..sound card related
ok i just had to post this one up
this is the most baffling problem i have ever come across..
I have a Tyan Thunder K7 running 2x AMD 2000+ processors with 1gb DDR ram
I have a Creative SoundBlaster Live! Card in the PCI slot...when I plug in a 1/8" wire into the back of it for my speakers and IMMEDIATELY the pc goes to a "Memory/Parity Check Error--SYSTEM HAULTED"..ok so i restart it...as soon as it loads in to the welcome screen of XP the system freezes. Now, if i run the system with the 1/8" unplugged its fine..
this one's got me stumped!
anyone?

I can't say with certainty, but my guess would be that something is being shorted out when you plug the speakers in. That being said, the problem would be with either the card itself or the speakers. You can easily find out which by plugging in something different, like a set of headphones.
