| Building a computer on Dell.com
If I have a computer built by Dell is it as easy to upgrade down the road as a computer I built myself? Could I possibly switch out the video card, the mother board, the processor, the power supply, or anything else I would like? The reason I ask is I would like to just get an AMD 64bit processor now and the 128mb graphics card but in the future would be interested in putting in an Intel Core 2 Duo and 256mb graphics card. I just wanted to know how easy this was done. Thanks. |

Not possible.
Those processors have different type sockets.
But a GPU upgrade could be done. |

But is there any way I could change out the mother board with the socket that accepts an Intel Core 2 Duo? Is the stuff in the Dell PCMI express? |

Why don't you just buy a intel system? You should get an integrated card then just add a GPU, instead of wasting your money on a card that you may not use. |

So if I got an intel system I could in the future upgrade to a core 2 duo? Is the integrated just built into the motherboard? Do the motherboards from dell have PCMI express so I can add a good GPU later? Sorry I am new to this. |

its PCI express. and whether you can upgrade to a core 2 duo all depends on what bvoard you get and what socket and chipset it has |

AMD is one Platform, Itel is the other.
From there, motherboard is upgradable to the limit of each particular motherboard.
It's best to know what you use the computer for, and your budget before planning a custom build or upgrade.
If you use it for gaming, a dual core processor may not be your best choice.
To determine what processors/video cards your Dell can upgrade to, find the white sticker with black numbers on the back, the "service tag".
Click on the link below, and type in the service tag to find out any info on your computer. http://support.dell.com/support/topi...dhs&redirect=1 |
