PSU Upgrade
I need to upgrade my PSU due to an issue with the 12v rail. My graphics card isn't getting enough power and I'm getting ridiculous graphical corruption and games cause my computer to reboot or freeze. When I lower the clock speeds on my graphics card, the graphical corruption goes away, but games are still prone to crashing and such. That seems to me to point to a power issue because the card is brand new (specs in my sig) and temperatures stay well below maximum.
I was looking at this PSU

I'm looking to spend money somewhere along the price of that Rosewill, and I need at least 500w. Could anyone suggested a reliable PSU that fits that description? Thanks!AMD Athlon 64 3400 @ 2.2Ghz

you might try reading through this thread that way when I say you don't need a 500w p/s you'll understand why and rosewill is typically crap! you never know exactly what you are getting from them

If you had asked in your other thread JP would probably have made a similar suggestion to mineLast edited by RicheemxX; February 14th, 2007 at 10:33 PM.

Wonderful, thanks for the links. Very helpful. That looks like a solid PSU too.

Don't mess with wattage, just because it has 600 WATTS O BOY O BOY!does not mean it's a solid psu. Get yourself a nice fortron, enermax, etc. or something from a TRUSTED well known similiar brand with at least 30 or more volts on the dual 12+ rails especially if your into gaming. Cards get nothing but power hungry now a days.

New Corsairs rock too. They are being accused of dumping too, so get em while they r cheap.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the corsair seems a bit pricey. I think I'm going to go with something similar to the FSP power supply.

A bit of a bump...
I just did some testing with my uncle's multimeter and found that my 12v ranged from 12.55v (from post) to 13.08v (idle after running a stress test with prime 95)
I have CoolMax Cx-500 (550w) Do you think these numbers may be too high?AMD Athlon 64 3400 @ 2.2Ghz

That's way too high. The PSU is out of regulation. It should be within + or - 5%, which equates to 11.4 to 12.6V. Considering that it's a coolmax... that's no surprise. I would replace it ASAP.

Do you really 100% trust that multimeter? Try a great freeware program like Everest and see if the voltage values differ.
Start Everest > Computer > Sensor

Your kidding right?
Software programs are not nearly as accurate as a multimeter. Hell, everest tells me my psu is running 15v on the +12v rail....Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit
File Server: AMD Opteron 180 / 3gb DDR400 / Nvidia 6200 / WinXP Home 32bit / Lubuntu 12.10
Laptop: HP-Compaq nc8430/ Intel CoreDuo T2400 / 2gb DDR2 667/ Ati x1600 / WinXP Pro 32bit

That FSP that RicheemxS linked is really good. I have one, and it's 12V rail goes up maybe .01. It really sticks to spec.
