First and foremost, WHAT IS THE MAIN USE OF THE PC GOING TO BE?
At some point, you're going to have to pick for yourself, Xban. Try that first.
Why? Becuase this person is going to suggest this mobo and chip and then someone else says "no, that mobo sucks"..."try this one instead". The somebody else will come in and say the first board is good, the second one sucks, but oh, BTW this one is better than those 2!
Why don't you try and go out to Newegg and pick some basic components and post them here for review. It's really a good learning expirence and you'll learn alot about different parts.
My only suggestion I'll give is don't skimp on mobo, case, CPU or power supply. This is the FOUNDATION of your pc and will allow you to upgrade down the road. And this doesn't mean spending $250 for a mobo either.
And don't look at it as a huge project all at once. Just pick a mobo and chip (hell, that's easy, get the Core 2 Duo 6600..due to drop price at end of April). |

honestly roost, I am only 14 haha, I am pretty much broke so I dont have the time or the money to experiment with parts like you guys so I would like to hear some reccomendations from people that have experience like you do xD, after a few experienced replies I will choose xD...
I will use this computer for moderate gaming, heavy messaging, and heavy web browsing...
I'd like a computer that can multitask and handle all 3 with little or no problems haha...thanks! |

Refer back to your last thread, or look for similar threads. We shouldn't have to link every single part for you in a post.
AM2 x2 processor OR Core 2 Duo Processor
Not OCing? Any mobo by a decent manufactuer.
DDR2 667 or DDR2 800 Ram(whatever your mobo reccomends)
7900series card
Cheap DVD Burner with decent reviews
WD or Seagate hard drive
Any case.
Operating System.
The same PSU you have in your current build.
Try and do as Roost suggested. Compile a list of the parts i suggested, and we will tweak a few of your selections. The PC you are building can be built for 6-700$... YOU decide when making selections if you want to spend your 1K max. |

You might also take the time to look through the other threads. There are several regarding builds with similar needs.
Being that you are 14 years old, I am going to suggest something that may seem a bit odd on here.
I suggest you look at the available units that are already built.
I build PCs all the time ....custom for folks.........but I"m using a Sony VGC-RA840G..........WHY.......... I really like these units. They are liquid cooled. They are whisper quiet and pop and go like a good machine should. This one is a Pentium D. 2.8 GHz. And some of the software really suits my needs.
My point is that at your age, if your not already aquainted with PC building, I'd get one that is built.
Or.....I'd start with older components and build a solid unit for much cheaper so that I could learn the in and outs of PC building. Spending $1000. to learn and build is un wise unless you have an experienced hand to show you the ropes.

Thing is people will always say, well you got to start somewhere. I was 14 when I built my first rig only a year and half ago, so well I suggest though Buying a pre-built and say upgrade the things in it IE. gfx cpu maybe ram def then move it into your own case, then change mobo etc.. do it like that

I'm not saying a 14 year old is incapable of doing it........ My son can build a pc with his eyes shut I suppose and he is 12.........But he hangs out with dad and helps out a lot. I am saying that if your doing this on your own........it is best to be careful and safe.
Hell I had an IT student fry an onboard sound card on a nice neo platnium board for me the other day..........he forgot to power down the speakers before hooking them into the motherboard.........a spark flew and blamo.........I'm installing a pci sound card and am thankful that the whole board isn't gone.
Needless to say the customer got a new rig and I'm gonna keep this one for a spair.
My point is..........if this is your first custom build.........then make sure you have a skilled hand beside you to avoid making a big mistake.
I'm all for you kids going for your dreams. I think that is great..........really. |

thanks for the build fpantovich xD, you're helping like always and I appreciate that but can you tune down that build so it's in the 700-800ish area so it includes pretty much everything?
and also can you help me find a clear case or a case with clear windows so I can put in some light up fans haha...
here's a build that I have based off posts I have read in my other threads...: FSP Group 450 Watt PSU(same as my old build...) 49.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 CPU(replaced) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103776 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003 XFX PVT73GUGD3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail(130.00 but 115.00 after mail in rebates...) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...163&CatId=1560 NZXT Apollo BLACK NP Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail (75.00 but only 69.00 after mail in rebates...) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146025
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail(176.00 but only 141.99 after mail in rebates...) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227139

um...that's pretty much it guys xD, I took some things off of fpantovich's build and changed some but um...feel free to change my build in any way or correct any mistakes I made...I think I made a mistake on the fans because I don't even think the case I chose has a slot for a 120mm fan haha...
here's the prices before shipping and handling...
here's an estimate and it's a crapload of money haha...I think I am going to have to seriously trim down a lot of stuff...1200 before shipping and handling...this is including almost everything besides things like thermal paste and keyboards and mouses and speakers...
can anyone trim some stuff down for me but still have optimal performance?
EDIT:i'm taking off vista as I will get it somewhere else, this might hint some people haha...also thinking about tuning down the monitor a bit but it seems like it's already a good price since most other brands have their 17'' for the same price as the 19'' I put up...I chose the CPU because I heard the price dropped down and I also heard it was a great CPU but...I don't really know about the motherboard but if someone could trim that down that would be GREAT, the video card...hm...I heard from a few people that the XFX 6800XT and the 7600GT were very good cards for the price...OH HEY...check this out...newegg has their 7600GT at 130 after rebates but tigerdirect has the exact same thing for 80 dollars...time to scratch newegg off the video card then xDDD...
new price after savings but before shipping and handling prices... after the replacements that him61 told me about...I decided to just go with the card I just posted but replace my mobo and my CPU with him61's suggestions as I do not plan on OCing or anything like that haha...this will put me around in the 800ish range...
^_________^

Toss the e6600 and go with an X2 4400+. Better than an e6300 (Which you would have gotten anyways to cut the price down) plus it's cheaper. It'll overclock fairly well, not as good as a Core 2, but you'll get noticable performance gains if that's your thing... Here's the links to what I'd suggest for you:
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103776 $129
BTW, Brisbane is AMDs 65nm processors. They use less voltage and have a smaller process type. A good sign that they will be cooler and overclock a hair better than the Windsors.
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138026 $85
Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102061 $170 plus a $20 MIR if that's your thing...
Oh, and a word of advice, if you get this card, download the new drivers, not the ones on the CD... I got a 20 FPS performance gain (average) on Oblivion when I tossed the old drivers and got the new ones
Edit: These substituted over your other stuff brings you to a little less than $1001. (Not counting the rebates)
