Memory mix/match
When I built my system there was a bundle with the processor on Newegg.com.
It came with "DUAL CHANNEL XMS " ram.
Well, I'm looking to upgrade to 2 gigs instead of 1... and looking in EVEREST it doesn't say anything about dual channel and the model number doesn't match with what EVEREST says.
anyways, if what i have now isn't actually dual channel, and I get dual channel memory and use it with my existing mem..will there be any conflicts?

The memory itself dosen't itself make it dual channel. To make it dual channel you need to put the ram in the proper slots. I'm thinking this might be why Everest doesn't show it as dual channel for you because it shows as dual channel on mine.
Edit: I looked in your manual and to make dual channel work the ram needs to be in slot 1 and 3 where slot 1 is closest to the cpu and slot 4 is furtherest away from the cpu.Last edited by Jarhed7276; April 12th, 2007 at 11:56 PM.

When my system boots it says "dual channel" on the upper part of the boot screen when I have 2 similar sticks of ram installed.

ok, I got another question for you guys.
I currently have Corsair XMS PC3200 1 gig in my system.
Like i said before I'm looking to upgrade my memory.
are there any suggestions for ram, as in :: get the same memory i have, or if there is a better option.

Getting the same sticks would be ideal. If not, try to match speeds and timings.

In any case, if you don't get "matching" memory sticks, then the FSB will sync itself to the lowest common denominator and you'll be at the timings of your slower stick. SO, with that in mind, if you're gonna' throw the worlds greatest memory in the machine, you might just be wasting money.
Him's right. (hehe saying that kinda' makes it sound like I don't understand English
) But yeah, try to match the stick of memory you already have with an identical twin.
And thus it was spoken by the mighty Uss. And it was so.

CPU-Z shows that the timings are 3-3-3-8 running dual channel. anyways, do I need to get he specific timing same or will my mother board change it?

It will just take the lowest of the timings (Just like the speed) if you use a different latency set.
