hardware issue I think

For some reason my computer after being up for awhile, or while playing a game is freezing up and most of the time making a long high pitch noise. I am not sure if its either the sound card or ram or what. It only happens in games, or when I am doing something.

Windows 2k is the OS, but think it may be hardware.

You may be right. It even could be driver related. But we need just a little more info on your setup such as video card, sound, mobo, ram, HDD, drivers, etc.

High Pitch noise?...like the monitor?

Only happens during games?

Maybe your video card is overheating during play and when the lock occurs it creates a high pitch noice from the video card to the monitor (i.e. signal noise)

Just an idea...

wow. thanks for the replies. I just got it back up and working, it crashed a bunch of times and then wouldnt even post. Finally I took a look at the memory and decided to take all out but one chip. It came up with no problems. I didnt know that memory going bad could cause that. I knew it could lock up your system and cause window error messages, but to make a high pitch sound and lock up was unusual.

Anyways problem solved after it forced me to resolve the issue through trial and error.
