DVD+-RW drive not working
When I put a blank DVD-RW into my HL-DT-ST GCA-4164B, the drive will not recognize the blank dvd. Then when I put a blank dvd+r in there it will recognize the dvd, but then after burning something to the dvd it either doesn't read the burned dvd or it didn't write any data to it properly.
I don't know what to do, I can't burn any DVD's with my DVDRW drive. But yet it reads commercial dvd's perfectly... It can create CD-R's and read CD's as well. Someone please help me.

Ok, four things to check:
1. Reload device drivers by deleting both the drive and IDE channel from device manager and reboot.
2. Check the DMA setting in the IDE channel and make sure it's set to "UDMA-2" in "current transfer mode".
3. Have you checked for a firmware update? Generally for OEM models, you should get this from the computer manufacturer's site.
4. What is the system model?

What is the software that you are using to "burn" the DVD?
