Why does my PC use my default browser

Everytime I click on a link, whether its in a chat convo, email or whatever - it always uses IE to display it. My default browser is FireFox! What going on.

Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs
    Set Program Access and Defaults

Use Custom, and make sure everything is checked correctly.

Ya, some programs do that here too, it really is annoying...maybe I should replace the IE executable file with Firefox.

just learn how to safely manage your file and protocol associations using the registry. otherwise, you can use the File Types tab of the Folder Options control panel in WinXP or the Default Programs control panel in Vista to adjust existing associations using a GUI.
note that some associations are based on a protocol, like http or ftp and so on. others are based upon the file's extension. and others still, under specific circumstances, may be based upon the perceived type and content type, such as text or image or audio and such.

if you want to learn to customize your windows experience through the registry, you can either use a Virtual Machine, or another way is to create and work within a new user account and then stick with modifying things for that user, like going into 'HKCU_Software_Classes' for modifying file/protocol associations.

if you got any questions, let us know....
