| Canon PIXMA 6700 output door problem
Hi all, I have a problem with a Canon 6700 photo printer. When I turn it on and get ready to print, I often get the the error message while printing that the output door is closed, even though it is open. I can play with the door and the message will go away and the picture continues to print for a couple seconds, but goes into the error again. I feel it is a switch problem that is borderline. I have found by lifting the door slightly, the problem goes away. Seems weird to LIFT the door to help it, but thats the deal. Does anyone know where the switch is located and what type of switch it is? I do service work for a living and I am willing to fix this myself if possible, but not having a manual on this unit makes it a little more difficult. Any help is appreciated. |

Welcome to TechIMO
When you went to Cannon's web site did they have a manual?

I did a search for the 6700D, and also looked in the reference area, but nothing I saw helped...
Maybe I was in the wrong area, but that was the first place I went before posting here. |

Yeah, that's a toughy. I have a Canon MXP 780 with I'm sure is a similar door.
Maybe try to dust it out...I would remove cartridges and VERY LIGHTHLY and VERY CAREFULLY spray some compressed air around.
I feel though, that it's a bad sensor of some type |

You can see a small black plastic lever above the hinge on the right side of the output door located on the front of the unit. I feel sure that this is probably the culprit but without knowing the type of switch this is, I am hesitant to pull this thing apart. I hate to do it, but I may just have to use something to brace the door up slightly when I am using it. It's against my nature to do that, but rather that break something it might be the easiest way around the problem.... |

Does it have push button like mine to manually open the door? |

If it is shut and you print something will it open and print or do you get the same error message?
Almost sounds like a "limit" switch, but open IS open; what is causing tha error is weird.
Maybe contact Canon Customer Support??? |

Yes I agree, open is open. Another thing I notice is a small silver square just below the black lever I described earlier. The left side of the door has neither the lever or the silver square. Thanks for all your help, I guess it's time to contact them. I feel they will want me to take it in for service, but I am not sure if I want to go that route. Hell, I would rather fix it myself... LOL |

How much do you have to "lift" the door"
I'm thinking of those sticky things you can put on the bottom of chairs so the chair leg doesn't scuff the floor. You could put a couple of those on the door and "fix" it. LOL |
