Hello, fellow TIMOers. I just built my new system and just, basically wanted to share with you guys the specs, and brag. I put it together just the other day (Nov. 29th).
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping [OCed 50% to 3.6GHz (FSB: 400, Multiplier: 9) from 2.4GHz]
Memory: G.Skill 4x1gb DDR2-800 (Timings relaxed to 5-5-5-15 or CPU OC)
Motherboard: ASUS P5K Deluxe w/ WiFi
Video Card: Geforce 8800GTS 640MB (Core: 575, Shader: 1400, Memory: 900, Stock OC)
HDD1: Western Digital Raptor 150gb (10,000RPM SATA)
HDD2: Hitachi Dekstar 750gb (7200RPM SATA2)
HDD3: Western Digital 320gb (7200RPM SATA)
HDD4: Western Digital 250gb (7200RPM SATA)
Power Supply: OCZ SLI Ready 700W
All in my Original Cooler Master Case.
Note-able Temperatures:
Idle:
CPU: 24C/75F
MOBO: 36C/97F
GPU: 45C/113F
Load:
CPU: 29C/84F
MOBO: 40C/104F
GPU: 60C/140F
Yes, it's cold in my dorm. We leave the Windows open year-round... Even during the Winter. I'm considering attempting to OC the CPU a bit more, seeing as it's running so cool. I'm also considering overclocking the GPU, but I've never hard very good luck overclocking video cards. Let me know what you think.
EDIT/P.S. - My CPU cooler is a Zalman CNPS9500

Nice setup!
And those are some crazy low temps. Congrats.
As far as overclocking your GPU, use Rivatuner. IMO, it's the best program to use for overclocking.
You should have fairly good luck. Just make sure you run stability tests while overclocking. It sucks when you in the middle of a game, and it freezes..
Good luck |

Yeah. I've used Rivatuner before, but it seems that the newest version for Vista don't have a GPU stability test. Do you know of any programs to test a GPU for Vista 64 by chance? |

lol, if you just got it, you should have gone for a 8800GT. they own the GTS versions (both 320mb and 640mb ones) and they are also cheaper (or was it the same price). well, anw nice set up. some cards come pre overclocked by the way which basically means you basically cant push it any more. well you gonna check first

Very nice setup, how do you like that Raptor? I upgraded to that same drive about a year ago and couldn't be happier, I don't think I'll ever build another computer for myself using anything slower for my boot drive.
I'm also curious as to why you didn't opt for an 8800GT versus the GTS though?

I ordered all the parts about 1-2 weeks before the 8800GT was announced. Otherwise I would've. I just got around to building it. Quote:

Good luck | I'm now running the GTS at
Core: 600, Shader: 1460, Memory: 1030. Runs everything very well, which the exception of Crysis... But, it's definitely playable if I tweak a few settings. Quote:

Everything in windows seems to run really well. I still need to test to see if there's a speed difference in starting and running games from the Raptor vs. another 7200rpm, though... If it's not too much of a difference, then I may just end up running most my games off of one larger 7200rpm hdd.
