| 32-Bit Vs. 64-Bit
Hi.
Is Merlin U630 a 32/64 -bit data-card?
How do I know how many bits on a specific PCI slot?
Can 32-bit work with 64-bit, and how about vice-versa?
I really need urgent answers, thanks.

Reason: The PCI To PCMCIA Adapter I'm using is a 32-Bit...

Because everytime a connection TO my Merlin U630 is being established,
upon getting the good blue LED lamp, I'll end up with the dreaded blue screen,
which part of what it says is: "NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error"...
I know it's a Type II card (and I've been to that URL several times before),
but is it 32/64 -bit?
And I use that data-card with my desktop PC, with the help of
a PCI-based PCMCIA Adapter (RICOH chipset, it says).
I suspect the PCI slot where the adapter is put might be incompatible
with either that very adapter or Merlin U630...
or Windows 2000 since although this OS is supported,
I'm actually using it on a desktop PC...
I'm not simply Vs.-ing, thanks.

there is no reason to be asking if its 32bit or 64 bit. You need to find out if your laptop supports Type II PCMCIA card.
So lets start with your laptop model and manufacturer. If your getting an error you may not be using a card that your laptop supports or something is wrong with your laptop. |

I'm assuming you have a PCMCIA to PCI adapter, also windows 2000 isn't very good OS IMO. But that isn't the issue.
Try switching out PCI slots with the adapter, did it always have this problem.
I think its either the card or the adapter.
But this could have nothing to do with the card and could be something wrong with the system.
I don't know, why am I trying to help?

Here is the thing, ALL your PCI slots are EXACTLY the same baring PCI-E. Switch the PCI and i can almost be 100% sure your going to have the same problem. The thing is that Adapters are not a guarantee of functionality.
Since your getting memory errors, this card probably doesnt work with your adapter. Try another adapter or try using a different card in the adapter to test it out. Do you have the model number for the adapter as it may not support Type II PCMCIA cards?! |

I wouldn't come to that conclusion so hastily. Changing the PCI slot may assign the device a different IRQ which MAY fix the problem. You may very well be correct, but in my experience, it's worth a try and the failure rate has not been 100%

- and this is the adapter, although I bought it from somewhere else. Quote:
