| Yahoo Email dead on home computer
I can access my email at work fine (yahoo), but at home it will not go (very slow). My wife has tried at the same time as I did so I know the server is up.
It happens with either email account that we have.
This has been going on for several days. I'v purged the temp files and what not. Only email is slow.
Any ideas anybody?
It might be an isp problem... |

Yahoo needs cookies enabled for it to load properly, I have found that If i reject cookies that it won't load all the way and is very slow. Also are you running a Firewall of some sort? could be blocking it. My firewall blocks both hotmail and yahoo in the web browser.
Dunno if this will help any. Good Luck.

check the internet connection settings of your IE. make sure also that you have inputted correct proxy settings (if there is) of your ISP.

I have cookies enabled, perhaps I need to lower the privacy setting (I did not change it though).
Yes, my ISP uses a proxy, it is set correctly, maybe I can get an alternative proxy to try. I have not changed it.
No firewall.
I'm using IE6.
This morning I remembered the kids computer was setup for internet acess, I need to try it on that computer as well. That would eliminate either the computer or the isp.
If it's the computer I can try deleting all the yahoo cookies.
I wonder if it is the time lag due to the slow dialup connection going through the proxy that causes the yahoo server to put me on the back burner. IE, the sever gets busy taking care of the faster connections first and never gets around to taking my requests because my connections is so slow.
Actually my connection is not slow for dial up, and the proxy never seems to slow things down. Over all most pages load pretty fast.
I wish I had thought of the other computer yesterday, I'd be able to home in on the problem much faster. |

I suspect it's yahoo that's the problem. To bad they don't have any support.
My email notification goes to my yahoo email address and it seems to be working fine. Of course if any emails are bouncing I might not know it!
I'm going to send some test emails to myself from work and see how it goes. |

Still having intermitent problems. On the kid's computer it works fine, but on the main computer it does not work most of the time, very slow anyway. If I hit back then reclick I can make it respond after one or two tries.
I deleted all temp files and cookies. Still would not work. I tried removeing the proxy and it did work. Put the proxy back in and the problem came back.
I need the proxy for isp filtering.
Tonight I'm going to put Norton antivirus on and scan the system, I usually do not run av protection at home because I seldom do anything that might expose me to virus's. This is a recent rebuild, still pretty clean.
The other recent problem I had was I have yahoo set as my home page, when I open IE it would automatically log on to the internet normally. Then it stopped dialing up and would just load the page off line, it would not connect. I checked my settings, and it was not set to work off line. I fiddled with it for awhile and could not figure it out. I worked around it by clicking a different web site. Then the problem went away all by its self. Right after that this problem with the email came up.
I'm thinking that I might have a modem problem, maybe I'm losing my connection to yahoo.
I also notice a folder in windows that I have never seen before called userdata. In it was a something.dat file which I opened with notepad. Most of it was data that I could not read, but there was something about url's in it.
I'm also going to run Adware on it to see what is sneaking around on my computer. I may have to reinstall a recent ghost image to see if this is a software or hardware problem. |

You know POP3 acces has been restricted to paying members since this week.
I have been using yahoo mail since 1997. Always was very pleased about the stability, no ads and so on. Always laughing at those hotmail users strugling and couldn't get in their account...
Looks like things have changed, lately I'm having troubles with mailbouncing, ads coming from yahoo themself, they restricted email forwarding and pop3 access.
For me enough to slowly let my yahoo email address die. I already introduced the email address that came with my website to my friends and slowly stepping over. |
