2 network connections

I have a WiFi Connection that goes to my router upstairs to get internet..

I have another box downstairs that I don't want internet on, but I want to have access to my main box for file sharing.

Whenever I plug my PC in, I loose internet but have access to the other network..

Is there anyway I can keep my current WiFi connection, and be attached to my other network as well?

You should have Internet and file sharing capabilities at the same time.

I think what is happing here is that when you plug the LAN cable into the computer the Wireless network device turns off...hence the loss of Internet sense that is your choosen methoud for Internet. You can have Internet the LAN and share files.

Use this if you don't want to go through the trouble of a network connection sharing wizard, etc.

Does the other box down stares have Internet connected to it? I'm thinking that's why the WiFI adapter becomes disabled when you plug the line into the computer. Get rid of Internet access on that computer down stares if this is the case.

Or there is an IP addresses conflict. What is the IP addresses of the two computers sharing files?

The way you can separate network sharing from Internet access is often done using two routers.

Connecting Two routers wirelessly/cables?

router behind router

You may need to buy another network card and attach the shard PC to that. I'm thinking when you set up ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) you chose the option of "This computer has Internet access". I would reset that so both computers are are set in a regular network and there is no Internet. So this means when you plug the LAN cable back in (hopefully) the WiFI adapter still functions.

I think there is the possibility of using a software based NIC (like the Windows loopback adapter) to use with two routers. Router A would be for Internet access and router B would be connected to the shared computer. The computer with Internet and ICS has the software based NIC set with static IP addresses for router B and gets the shared files from the computer down stares. I'm still exploring the possibility of some kind of virtual network adapter, so I don't know if that idea would work. Your better off with 2 network cards. However your current setup should work. It must be your chosen settings when you configured ICS. Like I said, don't configure ICS saying this computer has Internet. That may work for you so that when you plug in the LAN cable it won't disconnect the WiFI adapter. The computer probably thinks there is two sources of Internet and thus shuts one down. EDIT- Actually you reverse the ICS settings by saying the computer down stares is the host and the computer with the WiFI adapter is the client. Unless this is how you have it setup already?
